Adat
Chaim is privileged to be led by Cantor Sharon Wallach since it was
founded in 1985.
She is a native of Philadelphia, and received her Bachelor of Arts in Music and Speech and Hearing at the University of Pittsburgh in 1979. One year later, she received her Masters degree in Education of the Hearing Impaired. Our congregational family was pleased to share with Cantor Wallach as she earned her Cantorial Certification from the Maalot Seminary for Cantors and Judaists in Rockville, Maryland in 1994. In 1997, Cantor Wallach was accepted as a member of the Cantors Assembly, the international organization for Conservative cantors. In 1999, Cantor Wallach became Adat Chaim's first full-time cantor. Cantor Wallach has been quite a familiar voice to the Pikesville-Owings Mills-Reisterstown community since 1982. She has performed extensively for local Jewish organizations and cultural festivals. While attending to the needs of Adat Chaim with unending dedication and enthusiasm, Cantor Wallach has served as Music Specialist for the Baltimore Hebrew Congregation Day School and Religious School, Beth T'filoh Community School, Chizuk Amuno Rosenbloom Religious School, and the Jewish Community Center. During the summer months, she has been the director the the Jewish Culture Program of the Beth T'filoh Camps. She is also founder and director of Adat Chaim's acclaimed chorus, Shirei Chaim, and of Adat Chaim's youth chorus, Shirei Noar. Both of these groups have performed throughout the Baltimore/Washington metropolitan area. Besides Cantor Wallach's broad involvement in the congregational community, she is an active member of the Cantors Association of Greater Baltimore, the Woman Cantors Network, the Guild of Temple Musicians, and serves as secretary of the Seaboard Region of the Cantors Assembly.
